Solar Carport Complete

After a month of construction, the solar carport here at Car Charged UK is complete. The roof stretches across two car parking spaces, complemented by two EVCPs to allow for circular energy economy. As well as aiding our goal of providing all our staff with the ability to convert to sustainable transport and reduce CCUK’s carbon footprint, the carport is a showcase for how sustainable energy can be generated, stored and implemented for use with any electric vehicle.

How it Works

  1. Generation – our carport’s canopy doesn’t only shield your car from rain, snow or strong sun rays but it balances optimal drainage with sufficient collection of sunlight. The entire space of the roof is maximised with 15 side-by-side solar photovoltaic (PV) panels. Our carport’s canopy is set at a tilt of 15° to balance optimal rainwater drainage with sufficient collection of sunlight.
  2. Storage – throughout day, which reaches up to 17 hours in the summer, the roof’s solar PV is constantly collecting energy. To make the most of this electricity, it is fed into and stored in our on-site electrical energy storage system (EESS).
  3. Usage – electric vehicles placed inside the carport can draw power from our EVCPs. This uses energy fed from the EESS so that the vehicle can charge sustainably even outside of daylight ours. Any excess energy is maximized by feeding our office and offsetting demand.
